Putting the gates

This morning we have been putting gates to our property in Gyasnogor, Moulovibazar. After buying the land, with great effort and with the help of a lot of good people, we have built a wall around it, also with the same effort and the same good people’s help. Today it was the turn to put up the gate. I confess I am not especially excited by putting a gate in the middle of a field just to say where "our domain" starts, but I recognize that it is necessary to do so and that, in the Bengali culture it’s also an important milestone. It is said that the main condition to open a door is for the door to be closed; in this sense I would like our door to be impossible to open for the simple reason that it will always be open; somehow the gate to our land will be a symbol of the door of our heart. Open to boys and girls from the tea plantations; open to young people from the tribal communities and of Hindu and Muslim communities around; open to the poor in the area; open to teachers who seeking educational and professional orientation; open to those who want to dig into children protection; open to local authorities willing to work for the rights and welfare of the tea workers. But our door will be closed to any kind of exclusion and discrimination; closed to those looking just for "a prestigious school". As you can see, we have put the anagram of Mary engraved on the door so that everybody can understand who is the real principal in our future school.
